Abracadabra is an Aramaic word. Aramaic is a language used during Christ’s time. His last words on the cross – “Eloi, Eloi, Lamai Sabachthanai” (spelled for phonetics) was Aramaic.
This word has passed into the mythology of magic and medieval lore. People call it a chant that shows the result of a trick.
The Kabbalah has become much more popular than it ever was. That is because of recent efforts on the part of certain Rabbis.
The Jews locked it in secrecy. It was better not to study it because neophytes and the innocent would stumble. They would think they understood it. They damage their walk with half-way knowledge and false certitude.
Scholars won’t admit the word Abracadabra and the Kabbalah are from ancient times.
“The Tree of Life”
They wrote the Kabbalah in the first two centuries AD. It was then formalized in Spain in the 1200’s.
Others say it is so ancient that it goes back into pre-history. The “splendor” of the Kabbalah is that it deals with symbolic and coded language.
A simple part of a sentence would have scores of pages describing all the symbolic meaning in it. It is a deep and complex system. It does give one the feeling of bringing more depth, (but not more clarity) the more one reads.
The “Tree of Life” refers to how material becomes manifest from the Unseen World. Mastery of the unseen world is what the Kabbalah and the Zohar are attempting to achieve.
Zohar speaks of the importance of the two sides of the Tree of Life.
“When the sun illuminates from the trunk of the tree, it FIRST strengthens the right arm and shines. From that force, the left illuminates and includes itself in the light.”
Balancing
For a basic understanding of these two sides, we must see Chesed as Mercy and Gvurah as Judgment. It is the BALANCING of these two forces from which power comes.
When events lean in one direction or another, nature seeks a balance. History will reveal that when the emphasis is too much on MERCY, a time of judgment tends to even out events. The same is true for JUDGMENT. When things become too harsh and structured, there is a tendency to seek out more mercy.
Dr. Yitzak (Isaac) Hayutman put it this way when he spoke of Healing at a conference:
“Take the notion of the right side as Love or Grace, giving because it is its nature to give. The left side is the side of Judgment and wants to weigh and restrict.”
When It Comes Down To You
Someone I know is always in a struggle with resources and material need. He complained to me about ‘making things happen.’
He said, “What would you say is the key to making things happen.”
He was referring to acquiring items and materials to increase his sense of security. I chose not to address the specifics of his situation. Instead, I focused on the above issues.
I said, “When chesed is out of balance in a person’s life, they are wishing for forgiveness and grace. They are hoping that judgment holds back its hand. That’s natural. We all wish for as much grace and mercy as we can get.“
Then I focused a bit on his life. “When you run from gvurah, then life will seek to balance that force in your life. It does so by giving you more structure and judgment.“
A Wonderful Exercise
The Abracadabra of “Making Things Happen” has to do with balancing “chesed and gvurah.” An excellent exercise is to balance these powerful aspects of the tree of life:
- Healing
- Blessing
- Manifesting Things in Reality
These occur when we reach balance. They play off and emanate from both sides.
Judgment and structure can be out of balance for some people. They lack mercy.
Then there are others whose mercy remains unbalanced. They are awash in a non-structured world which is begging for judgment.
Life being what it is, we can see the action of balance going on all the time without being aware of it. We can become conscious of this process and balance our philosophy and self-management.
Then, we can move toward COMPASSION and see the judicious giving based on need. There is a natural economy that reveals itself here.
Your Needs or The Lottery
The abracadabra of life lies in the “give us this day our daily bread” maxim. The magic of making things happen is when the human cannot be out of balance with the world. We find balance even in the natural interplay of the forces of chesed and gvurah.
The individual is still participating in the work and the play of their surroundings. If you want something unusual (healing, power, or magical manifestation), declare that before it happen.
You will still need to have achieved a true and real balance of mercy and judgment in your life. These are essential. The magic is in knowing that these powerful forces are always there making things manifest.
If you win the lottery, one of the first things that would happen is you would fall into an EXCESSIVE state of Chesed. What would that then predict for that lottery winner?
It’s good to know yourself and how you match up with the rest of the sun signs.
