Happiness is not always determined with what you have. Sometimes, it takes a bit of sacrifice and giving up a few unnecessary things in your life in order to be completely happy. People often hold on to many different things they think are significant but don’t really mean anything at all. They even cling to things that cause them suffering and a great deal of pain and stress.
If you really want to be totally happy, you need to let those things go and start anew. You don’t have to deal with a lot of unnecessary burden. Allow yourself to be happy and stress-free. Make a resolve today that you will give up on those things that don’t serve you anymore and embrace change.
For a start, here are a few things you need to give up to achieve the highest level of happiness you deserve.
1. Give Up Thinking you Should Always Be Right
No one is perfect and whether you accept it or not, you make mistakes every now and then. Some of those may be simple, while others can take its toll on your relationship with people. Though it is normal to make a mistake, people don’t always want to admit it. Admitting that you make a mistake can be hard that many people do not do it even if it means taking their relationship at risk.
It does not have to be too complicated or cause pain and stress for you and others. It is not worth it. When you make a mistake and you feel the need to fight over who’s right and who’s wrong, stop and think. Ask yourself, “would you rather lose the relationship or lose an argument?”
2. Give Up the Hate
Dealing with difficult people is extremely taxing and stressful. Even though you try to be good, there are just some people who always seem to have a bad day. Indeed, it easy to love the loveable, but a real challenge to love the unlovable. Well, you don’t necessarily have to love those you don’t like. The key here is tolerance and acceptance. Accept that there are just different people. No matter how much you try pleasing them, nothing seems to work. Give up such negative feeling and learn to tolerate others. If you do so, you will feel better.
3. Give Up the Need for Control
Accept the fact that not everything is within your control, so if you feel the need to be always in control, don’t do it. Whether it is in your relationship, with events, people or situations, don’t try to control everything that happens around you and to you. Let things happen as they should be. Enjoy the unique surprises that life throws at you.
4. Give up Whining
Whining over things, situations, people or events does no good to you and those around you. Stop complaining, especially on small things that don’t really matter. Take responsibility of your own happiness. No one can make you unhappy or happy unless you allow it to happen. It is a choice you have to make. Remain positive.
5. Give Up the Blame
It can be easy to point fingers on others or situations when things don’t go your way. Give up on the need to blame others for your condition or for what you do and do not have. Don’t hold others responsible for your own happiness. Take responsibility of your actions and situations.
6. Give Up Self-pitying
It is not fun to be around with people who always feel sorry about themselves for everything that happens around them. Give up self-pitying because it is unattractive. Self-pity is destructive as well. If you always feel and think you’re the victim, it will leave you feeling depressed and unhappy. Life can be unjust, unfair and unkind. Regardless of the difficulty your situation, think of your trying times as an opportunity for growth.
7. Give Up the Need to Impress
Accept who you are and who you are not. Embrace your vulnerabilities, flaws and strengths. You are unique and no one is like you in this world, so give the need to impress others. You deserve to be happy and accepted for who you are. Be true to yourself and to others.
8. Give up Criticizing
Everyone is different from one another in different aspects, so give up the need to criticize others even if you really feel like doing it. Acknowledge that people, events and things are different from what you used to or what you like. Everyone wants to be happy. All people want to love and be loved. Everyone wants to be understood and accepted. If you want to feel those things, allow people to experience those too.
9. Give Up the Resistance to Change
Change can be scary for many people because they are often scared of the unknown. Many don’t want to leave their comfort zone because they don’t know what will happen next. Change is actually beautiful if you embrace it. It helps you move forward and get from point A to point B. Changes will allow you to improve your life, as well as the lives of other people around you. Don’t resist but enjoy the journey.
10. Give up on your Fears
This is a very negative feeling that keeps us from moving forward. The truth is, fear is only an illusion you created in your mind. It does not exist. It is all in your mind so do not keep it there. Break free from things that scare you or keep you from getting to where you want to be. Be fearless. When you are able to correct the inside, you will find the outside falling into place.
Being happy is just in your hands. No one can dictate your happiness. Often, it only takes freeing yourself from the things that keep you bondage. Liberate yourself and give up the unnecessary load you have been carrying all your life. You deserve to be happy.
